12th Edition Of DefExpo 2022 Postponed, Says Defence Ministry

The Defence Ministry announced on Friday that the 12th edition of Defexpo, which was slated to take place in Gujarat next week, has been postponed due to the worsening crisis in Ukraine.

"The DefExpo2022 proposed to be held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, from March 10th to March 14th has been postponed due to logistics challenges experienced by participants," the Defence Ministry Spokesperson said on Twitter. "The new dates will be announced as soon as possible."

Official sources claimed that due to the current issue, some of the participating countries were having trouble scheduling their travel.

The news comes amid rising tensions between the West and Russia over Ukraine, plus a bunch of sanctions imposed on Russia. In light of this, there have been concerns about whether American and European corporations will attend the exhibition, which has a strong Russian presence.

On February 18, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced that 930 exhibitors had signed up thus far, with the number projected to exceed 1,000 in the coming days.

Over 55 countries have confirmed their participation, according to defence officials, with the United States being the largest foreign exhibitor, followed by France and Russia.

This year's defexpo was set to be the largest since its beginning in 1996, with a floor area of 1 lakh square metres. For the first time, it was to be held in Gujarat, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi set to attend the opening ceremony on March 11.
