Air India Employees Threaten Strike On 2nd November Over Govt Notice

Air India employees have been given a notice asking employees to vacate company living quarters in Mumbai. In protest against this move, the Air India Union has threatened to go on strike on 2nd November.

The notice stipulated that the employees give in writing that they will vacate the premises allotted to them within 6 months of the disinvestment date.

The order has been issued after the sale of the debt-beleaguered airline to the Tata Group. The employees’ union has said that if such a move is forced upon them then they will respond by striking indefinitely from November 2nd onwards. Air India’s Joint Action Commission has written to General Manager (Industrial Relations) Meenakshi Kashyap as a warning of the strike. Presently, Air India has 12,085 employees and Air India Express has 1,434 employees.

While announcing the winning bid, the government had assured that the concerns of employees will be taken care of.
