'Bihar Bandh' Called By Candidates Protesting RRB Results, Police Violence

Agitating candidates who appeared for multiple levels of the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) NTPC have called for a 'Bihar Bandh', i.e., shutdown, to pursue redressal of their grievances and protest against police violence against demonstrators in recent days. Railway candidates have claimed examination rigging. For the past four days, students have been agitating, and now student organisations have called a bandh. Bihar's opposition parties have also expressed their support.

The students on the road have been expressing their dissatisfaction with the railway result for the past four days. The authorities therefore resorted to the use of lathi-charge to appease them. Tear gas shells were fired, and aerial firing was required in a number of locations. More than 500 agitating students have been charged with a felony. In addition, the police have filed a named FIR against six coaching institutes and 16 students in order to control student movement.

Faisal Khan, better known as Khan Sir and one of those named in the FIR, has appealed to aspirants to call off today's Bihar bandh, a day after eight students were arrested and coaching centre owners were booked for their alleged role in the protests linked to the Railways' recruitment drive.

The teacher told the students in a YouTube video that there was no point in protesting because Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had already promised that there would be no second examination for those who had applied for Group D posts, and that the RRB NTPC-CBT-I results would be revised.

Khan Sir, who has approximately 14.5 million YouTube subscribers, is seen quoting a tweet by former Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi in which the latter discusses his conversation with the Union Railway Minister.

"The government has given in to all of the students' demands." As a result, I urge them to postpone Friday's Bihar bandh. What if some criminals join the protest and disrupt the state's law and order? We would never want students to be discredited. If there is any violence during the bandh, teachers will find it difficult to stand by their students," the teacher said in the video.

The video has gotten a lot of attention, with many students agreeing with him. Khan, on the other hand, has blamed the students' reactions on the Railway Recruitment Board.

On Thursday, Patna DM Chandrashelhar Singh met with the owners of coaching centres and their associations to hear their side of story. Six tutors, including Khan Sir, have been arrested in connection with the Patna protests.
