Blockades Resurface On Assam-Mizoram Interstate Border Amid Fresh Standoff

A week after the claimed success in the Assam-Mizoram border standoff, barriers have re-emerged in the last two days on the interstate boundary. On the Assam border, locals have obstructed the movement of vehicles going into Mizoram. They demand that Mizoram withdraws the forces deployed in its region.

Due to this hundreds of trucks supplying essential goods are stranded on the National Highway 306 for the last two days. NH 306 is known as the lifeline of the state. Last week, Mizoram had promised that it would withdraw armed forces from its border area of Lailapur in Assam, but Assam officials say that Mizoram has not done so yet.

In view of the dispute, the Union Home Secretary on Thursday held a meeting with the chief secretaries of both the states - Assam and Mizoram - through video conferencing to find a solution and reduce tension along the border.
