COVID-19: 3.47 Lakh Cases, 703 Deaths In Past 24 Hrs., Kerala Records Highest Daily Spike

India saw a continuing increase in the number of COVID-19 cases amid the third wave surge led by the Omicron variant. In the past 24 hours ending 9 AM today, data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) said that 3.47 lakh (3,47,254) new cases of COVID-19 were recorded along with 703 fatalities due to the virus.

The daily positivity rate stands at 17.94%. The number of active cases in the country is 20.18 lakh (20,18,825) representing 5.23% of the total cases. The recovery rate is 93.50%, and 2.51 lakh (2,51,777) people have recovered in the past 24 hours.

The total number of Omicron variant cases in the country is 9,692 as of today.

There have ben over 160 crore vaccines administered so far in the country, of which 70.49 lakh (70,49,779) were administered in the past 24 hours, and 5.15 lakh have been administered today as at the time of writing.

COVID-19 In States: Kerala Sees Surge

Maharashtra (Daily: 45,932 Total: 73.71 lakh), Kerala (Daily: 46,369 Total: 55.10 lakh ), Karnataka (Daily: 47,754 Total: 33.76 lakh ), Tamil Nadu (Daily: 28,561 Total: 30.42 lakh ), and Andhra Pradesh (Daily: 12,615 Total: 21.40 lakh ) top the list in terms of number of infections.

Kerala has recorded the highest daily spike with 46,387 new cases in the past 24 hours, while the TPR (Total Positivity Rate) has gone up to 40%. Active cases in the state have increased by 30,640 in a day to reach over 1.99 lakh, and 341 people succumbed to COVID-19 on the day ending at 9 AM.
