Cyclone Nivar is expected to intensify into a “very severe cyclonic storm” and is likely to make landfall in South India on Wednesday evening between Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu and Karaikal in Puducherry, with a wind speed of 100-110 kmph gusting to 120 kmph.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in many places across Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry.
A total of 30 NDRF teams have been deployed while Section 144 has been imposed in parts of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
