Election Commission Extends Ban On Physical Rallies Until 22 January

The Election Comission has extended the ban on physical rallies by all political parties amid tising number of COVID-19 cases in Uttar Pradesh and the country. Earlier, the restriction was enforced until 15th January, due to which parties shifted online for their campaigning. Yesterday, Samajwadi Party had a run-in with Uttar Pradesh police and the Election Commission because the virtual rally it organized ended up attracting hundreds of people physically, and now 2,500 unkown Smajwadi Party members have been booked by the police.

The EC has said that indor meetings with maximum capacity of 300 people will be allowed, and has directed political parties to adhere tot he Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and has asked state/district administrations to ensure that the same are implemented.
