Elon Musk's Tesla Drives Into India Market, Opens Entity In Bengaluru

Ending a years-long wait, Elon Musk-led electric car maker Tesla has registered a subsidiary company in India, as the Cupertino-headquartered electric vehicle (EV) maker eyes a slice of the largely untapped automobile market.

According to a Registrar of Companies (RoC) filing, the new entity Tesla India Motors and Energy Private Limited is registered in Bengaluru, Karnataka and is listed as a subsidiary of a foreign company.

Tesla has named Vaibhav Taneja, Venkatrangam Sreeram, and David Jon Feinstein as the three directors in the newly formed entity in the country.

"Karnataka will lead India's journey towards Green Mobility. Electric Vehicle Manufacturer Tesla will soon start its operations in India with an R&D unit in Bengaluru. I welcome Elon Musk to India and Karnataka and wish him all the very best," Karnataka CM Yediyurappa tweeted.

Tesla’s entry into India comes at a time when the union and state governments have been encouraging higher adoption of green vehicle technologies to help cut down the carbon footprint.
