Facebook India executive Ankhi Das, who was recently mired in controversy over her alleged deliberate attempt to meddle in the social networking giant's content moderation policy to protect BJP leaders, stepped down on Tuesday evening to "pursue her interest in public service".

Shivnath Thukral, WhatsApp’s current public policy director and another top Facebook India executive with closes ties with the ruling party, will replace Ms. Das temporarily until a replacement is found.
In August, two foreign news organisations, The Wall Street Journal and TIME magazine in their articles alleged Facebook did not act upon the hate speeches given by BJP leaders due to fear of backlash which could've hurt its "business interests" in the country. It was also reported that several of Facebook top executives including Ankhi Das and Shivnath Thukral have close ties with BJP.
