Jalpaiguri Accident: Major Accident In West Bengal, Guwahati-Bikaner Train Derailed

A major rail accident has occurred in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal today. The Bikaner express on its way from Patna to Guwahati when, according to intial media reports, all 12 coaches of the train were derailed on the way at Jalpaigui. The first available visuals show the coaches severely damaged, upturned, or resting sideways, with locals rushing in to help with whatever essentials they could arrange until police and relief officials reached the spot.

Local administration has said that 3 bodies have been recovered so far, and 30 ambulances have been sent to the site of the accident. Some coaches have been derailed whereas others have completely upturned. The accident occured just a day prior to the festivalof Bihu being celebrated in Assam, which may have caused further crowding in the train, possibly increasing the death and injuries toll.

This incident occurred at 5 PM and it is not immediately clear from the spot as to what the number of casualties is or the exact cause of the accident, although it is being feared that many may have died or been injured. These details will be known only after an investigation.
