MP Bypolls: EC Issues Notice To BJP's Kailash Vijayvargiya, Seeks Response In 48 Hours; Warns Kamal Nath

The Election Commission on Monday issued notice to BJP General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya for his alleged 'Chunnu-Munnu' remark against Congress leaders Digvijay Singh and Kamal Nath, asking him to reply within the next 48 hours.=

According to the notice, the comment made against the two Congress leaders at an election rally in Indore on October 14 was found to be in violation of the provisions of the model code of conduct. The notice is based on the report received from the Chief Electoral Officer of Madhya Pradesh.

The notice said, 'The Commission gives you an opportunity to explain your stand within 48 hours of receiving notice on the said statement’, failing which the EC will take a decision without further reference to you.

Earlier, the EC had issued a notice to former Madhya Pradesh CM and State Chief Kamal Nath, over his ‘item’ remark for a woman candidate, advising him not to use such words while the Model Code of Conduct was in force.

Bypolls to 28 assembly seats of Madhya Pradesh are to be held on November 3 and during this time, the leaders have been trading barbs against each other in the election campaign.
