Omicron: Section 144 Imposed In Mumbai On 11, 12th December

Amid rising cases of the Omicron variant in India and the world, the Maharashtra government has decided to impose Section 144 in Mumbai to contain its spread. The provision will be active today and tomorrow, i.e., 11th and 12th December.

The DCP (Operations), Mumbai Police, said that the restrictions were enforced in view of the Omicron variant and also to prevent any violence in connection with the earlier such episode in Amravati and surrounding areas.

"It has been issued to prevent danger to human life from the new Omicron variant of COVID-19 as well as a threat to the law and order situation against the backdrop of violence that took place in Amravati, Malegaon and Nanded". The defaulters will be penalized under Section 188 of IPC (Indian Penal Cide)

Maharashtra has seven confirmed cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus.
