Opposition Lashes Out At Yogi Govt As Hathras Gangrape Victim Loses Battle For Life

Opposition parties hit out at the Yogi Adityanath-led UP government after a 19-year-old Dalit gangrape victim lost the battle for life after two weeks in Delhi on Tuesday morning.

On September 14, the accused had not only gang-raped the girl but also cut her tongue and broke her spine, with the intent that she could not tell anyone abut the incident. The victim was referred to the JN Medical College, Aligarh, where she was on ventilator support but her condition kept on deteriorating. On Monday, she was shifted to Delhi AIIMS for better treatment but her condition failed to improve.

The Hathras police were accused of not taking proper action. However, after the girl’s statement, the Hathras police had to arrest the four accused in the gang rape.

Congress General Secretary and in-charge of UP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra hit out the Yogi government over the incident, saying there is "no semblance of security" for women in the state and "criminals are committing crimes in the open”.

Former UP CM and Bahujan Samajwadi Party President Mayawati demanded the government provide all possible help to the victim's family and ensure fast punishment to the culprits by prosecuting them in fast track court.
