It is reported that the pilot had turned on the seat belt sign when the turbulence began due to bad weather over West Bengal. An official has been quoted in media saying that the food trolley should have been secured when the turbulence began since two passengers were severely injured due to hitting against it, which was not done. It was also reported that bags fell on the passengers from the overhead cabin.
A SpiceJet spokesperson said after the incident: “Today, SpiceJet Boeing B737 aircraft operating flight SG-945 from Mumbai to Durgapur encountered severe turbulence during descent which unfortunately resulted in injuries to a few passengers”, adding: “SpiceJet expresses its regret at this unfortunate incident and is providing all possible medical help to the injured”. The aircraft is still at Durgapur airport, at present, as per officials.
