Renowned Arts Scholar Kapila Vatsyayan Passes Away At 91

Celebrated art and dance scholar Kapila Vatsyayan passed away in Delhi home at the age of 91. Dr. Vatsyayan was a former member of Parliament and life time trustee of India International Centre (IIC).

Kapila Vatsyayan was the wife of the late literature giant Sachchidananda Vatsyayan. Born in Delhi in the year 1928, Kapila Vatsyayan was a matriarch of music, dance, and art.

She did her studies from Delhi, BHU, and the University of Michigan, USA. In 2006, she was nominated to the Rajya Sabha but due to a controversy she had to renounce her membership. In 2011, she was also awarded the Padma Vibhushan Award.

Dr. Vatsyayan has also written several books such as The Square and the Circle of Indian Arts (1997), Bharata: The Natya Sastra (1996), and Tradition of Indian Folk Dance (1987).
