UP: Flood Threat Looms Large In 20 Districts, Over 800 Villages Affected

Due to heavy rains and water discharge from dams, more than 800 villages across 20 districts have been hit by floods in Uttar Pradesh.

According to Relief Commissioner Sanjay Goyal, Ambedkar Nagar, Ayodhya, Azamgarh, Bahraich, Ballia, Balrampur, Barabanki, Basti, Deoria, Gonda, Gorakhpur, Lakhimpur Kheri, Kushinagar, Maharajganj, Mau, Pilibhit, Pratapgarh, Sant Kabir Nagar, Siddharthnagar and Sitapur are flood-affected. As many as 802 villages are in grip of floods, 428 of these have been completely cut off from other areas.

Several rivers are in spate flowing above the danger mark including Sharda river in Lakhimpur Kheri, the Rapti river in Gorakhpur, Ghaghra river in Barabanki, Ayodhya and Ballia.

Currently, 283 relief camps have been set up in the affected areas where 617 people have been shifted in the last 24 hours. 780 boats have been deployed in flood-affected areas and 715 flood posts have been constructed. The total number of affected in the State has exceeded one lakh.

However, Backward Classes Welfare Minister Anil Rajbhar claims that there has been a 90% drop in migration due to floods and the situation is completely under control.
