US Issues Alert Over 'Heightened' Threat Of Domestic Terrorism

The US Department of Homeland Security has issued a terror alert bulletin warning of a heightened threat of domestic terrorism from people unhappy with the outcome of the November election.

The bulletin suggests the riot by a mob of Trump supporters at the US Capitol on 6 January may embolden extremists and pave way for additional attacks.

DHS did not cite any specific plots, but pointed to “a heightened threat environment across the United States” that it believes “will persist” for weeks.

“Information suggests that some ideologically-motivated violent extremists with objections to the exercise of governmental authority and the presidential transition, as well as other perceived grievances fueled by false narratives, could continue to mobilize to incite or commit violence,” the sharp-worded bulletin said.
