Vizag: Gas Leak In Chemical Factory Kills At Least
Major gas leak in LG Polymer’s chemical plant in Andhra Pradesh’s Vizag has left at least eight people dead and several sick. Chaos ensued in the Gopalapatnam area after hundreds of people ingested the gas leaked overnight from the plant.

The incident took place at 2.30 a.m. in the wee hours of Thursday.


According to Srijana Gummalla, Commissioner, Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation, a gas leak took place at the LG Polymer Plant near Gopalapatnam. 

Hundreds of people living near the plant ingested the gas through breathing, after which some people became unconscious and some are having difficulty breathing, she added. Patients have crowded hospitals in the area.

Using Google Maps, the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation has shown the areas which are affected by the gas leakage.

The Corporation has asked people to use wet masks to cover their nose and mouth.

According to Andhra Pradesh DGP DG Sawang, work is on to evacuate people from the affected area. He also informed that the plant was shut due to the lockdown.

Meanwhile, the NDRF DGP has said that a group of 27 experts is involved in rescue operations and around 80-90% people have been evacuated from the affected area.

Visakhapatnam DM Vinay Chand met the ailing people at the King George Hospital. 

According to Home Minister Amit Shah, he has spoken to officers involved in disaster management and other related officials. He also said that the Home Ministry is monitoring the entire incident.
