As the world started recovering from Covid19 outbreak stock markets performed very well for the investors specially in Europe, US and India. Riding the global liquidity access and investments from foreign portfolio managers, Indian indices -the 50 stock Nifty and 30 stock Sensex - were at 3rd and fourth positions globally among the major stock exchanges of the world.

The small and midcap in the Indian stock exchanges showed even a better performance. The Smallacp index increased 62.8% in the year while the Midcap jumped 39.2% from January.

The leader of the global pack was a surprising French CAC recovery though the country was one of the worst hit in 2020 pandemic year. Even London’s Financial Times index showed a healthy gain of above 14%. In the US the industrial recovery was broad based as the 500 stock index of Standards and Poor showed nearly 27% growth this year. The technology based Nasdaq index showed a second year of high growth at 21.4% as the world depended on connectivity, computing and online entertainment. Companies like Netflix, Amazon, Meta of Facebook, Google and Apple strengthened their global hold over the markets and reaped high profits.

Among the laggards of the year were Brazil where the BOVESPA index fell more than 11% and China which showed a subdiued gains of 3.4%.
