Grand Opening Of 50th International Flim Festival
The 50th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) has begun in Goa on November 20. The grand inauguration of Asia’s oldest film festival was done by Amitabh Bachchan and superstar Rajinikanth.

Bollywood director Karan Johar is hosting this festival. Several political leaders, including Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar and Goa Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant were present at the inauguration.


For the first time, 200 students from the Goa College of Art have also become part of the ceremony. A short film based on the contribution of former Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar towards encouraging the IFFI in Goa was also shown.

Along with this, memorable films of 13 major Bollywood artistes were shown and their contribution to the world of cinema was remembered.  

Among them were artistes like Mrinal Sen, Kadar Khan, Veeru Devgan, Girish Karnad and M J Radhakrishnan.

On the opening day, the Italian film ‘Despite The Fog’, directed by Goran Paskaljevic, was featured and French actress Isabelle Huppert was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Apart from this, Shankar Mahadevan and his band kicked off the festival with a fusion music performance. The film festival will go on till November 28, in which around 200 Indian and international films will be screened.
