Oscars 2020: Zoya Akhtar's 'Gully Boy' Out Of Race
The Zoya Akhtar-directed film ‘Gully Boy’ is out of the race for the Oscar Awards to be held next year. In September this year, ‘Gully Boy’ had been chosen as India’s official entry in the Best International Feature Film category for the 92nd Academy Awards.
But ‘Gully Boy’ could not make it to the list of Top 10 films in this category.
Among the films which did manage to reach the final list are ‘The Painted Bird’ from the Czech Republic, ‘Truth and Justice’ from Estonia, ‘Les Misérables’ from France, ‘Those Who Remained’ from Hungary, ‘Honeyland’ from North Macedonia, ‘Corpus Christi’ from Poland, ‘Beanpole’ from Russia, ‘Atlantics’ from Senegal, ‘Parasite’ from South Korea and ‘Pain and Glory’ from Spain. ‘Gully Boy’ is the inspirational story of Divine and Naezy, two rappers who hail from the slums of Dharavi in Mumbai. Earlier, in the same category, ‘Mother India’ in 1958, ‘Salaam Bombay!’ in 1989 and ‘Lagaan’ in 2001, are the only films which made it to the list of the first five films at the Oscars.
