'Har Ghar Jal': After 70 Years, Goa Becomes 1st St
Goa has become the 1st state to provide 100% tap water connections in rural areas. Covering 2.3 lakh households in two districts, Goa has earned itself ‘Har Ghar Jal’ distinction. Two districts -- North Goa with 1.65 lakh rural households and South Goa with 98,000 rural households in 191 gram panchayats -- are "fully saturated" with assured piped water supply through tap connections.

Under ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’, Govt aims to provide piped water to all rural households by 2024. For this, it will spend Rs 3.5 lakh crore.

After 70 years of independence, Goa has become the first state with 100% functional tap connections. This highlights the deep water crisis the country has been in. Water Aid India 2019 report states 600 million people in the country are facing an acute water crisis. NCRB 2018 data reveals 92 people lost their lives in water dispute.

According to Statista's March 2020 data shows 42.49% of Indians get water through taps.

Amid this achievement, over half of the Indian population still struggle to access drinking water, revealing a situation that is very sad and worrying for us.
