Himachal Pradesh Gets Season's First Snowfall

Many areas of Himachal Pradesh have experienced five to eight feet of snowfall in the first week of November. The Leh-Manali road has been closed due to snowfall. Tourists are heading towards the snow-covered Rohtang Pass to get a glimpse of it but there is a long line of vehicles enroute due to snowfall.

 

Snowfall has begun in many areas of Himachal Pradesh. There has been around eight feet of snowfall in Rohtang Pass and Baralacha Pass. The Manali-Keylong-Leh road has been closed for traffic due to continuous snowfall.

 

Many areas of Lahaul and Chamba are covered in snow. It is also snowing in Baralacha, Kunzum Pass, Bharmour and Pangi.

According to the meteorological office, rain and snowfall is expected to continue till November 6-8.

The temperature in Rohtang has fallen below minus. Tourists are heading towards Rohtang to see the spectacle of the pass covered in a blanket of snow. However, the local administration has appealed to tourists not to go to Rohtang due to heavy snowfall. Officers have said that they should not proceed towards Rohtang Pass and should return from Gulaba barrier after sightseeing.

In Lahaul valley, apples are ready to be harvested and the continuous snowfall has become a cause of concern for traders.


Meanwhile, the snowfall and cold conditions in the first week of November are indicating that this year, the winter season will be long.
