Coronavirus Cases Inch Closer Towards A Lakh, Death Toll Crosses 3,000 Mark
The number of coronavirus cases in the country has reached close to a lakh and the death toll crossed 3,000. According to Health Ministry data at 8 am on May 18, the total number of coronavirus patients in the country has reached 96,169 and there are 56,316 active cases now.
While 3,029 people have lost their lives so far, 36,823 people have recovered as well. The highest number of deaths in the country has taken place in Maharashtra at 1,198, where 33,053 cases have come to light and 7,688 people have recovered too.
In Gujarat, 659 people have lost their lives due to coronavirus so far. While 4,499 people have been discharged here, the total number of patients is 11,379.
In Madhya Pradesh, there have been 246 deaths. The total number of patients here is 4,977 and 2,403 patients have been discharged.
In West Bengal, 288 people have lost their lives so far. While 959 people have recovered here, 2,677 people have contracted the coronavirus.
In Rajasthan, 131 people have lost their lives so far. While 2,992people have recovered here, 5,202 people have contracted the coronavirus.
In Delhi, there have been 160 deaths. A total of 10,054cases have been reported here and 4,485 patients have recovered.
There have been 104 deaths in Uttar Pradesh. Over here, 4,259 cases have been reported and 2,441 patients have recovered.
In Tamil Nadu, 78 people have died. While 4,172 people have been discharged, 11,224 people are infected.
In Andhra Pradesh, there have been 50 deaths. The total number of patients here is 2,407 and 1,456 patients have been discharged.
In Karnataka, 37 people have died, with 1,147 cases and 509 recoveries have been reported.
In Telangana, 34 people have lost their lives so far. While 1,551 people have contracted the virus, 992 people have recovered.
There have been 32 deaths in Punjab. While 305 people have recovered here, the total number of patients is 1,935.
In Jammu and Kashmir, 13 people have lost their lives so far. While 575 people have recovered, 1,183 people have contracted the illness.
Haryana has reported 14 deaths, 562 recoveries and 910 coronavirus cases.
Bihar COVID-19 deaths are at 8, recoveries at 475 and cases at 1,265.
There have been four deaths in Kerala and Odisha. Total cases stand at 601 in Kerala and 828 in Odisha, whereas recoveries stand at 497 and 220 respectively.
There have been three deaths each in Jharkhand, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh. Total cases stand at 223 in Jharkhand, 191 in Chandigarh and 80 in Himachal Pradesh, whereas recoveries stand at 113, 51 and 39 respectively.
In Assam, two deaths have been reported, with 101 cases and 41 recoveries.
Besides, Uttarakhand, Meghalaya and Puducherry have reported one death each.
The coronavirus has hit 33 states and union territories across the country so far and the number of patients is increasing rapidly.
