COVID-19: 575 Students, 829 Teachers Infected Even
As many as 829 teachers and 575 students of government schools in Andhra Pradesh have tested positive for Coronavirus. Most of the students and teachers had undergone COVID tests before the schools had reopened on November 2.

The 'unlock' process is going on all over the country and in such a situation, the decision of the Central Government to open schools was left to the state governments. In such a situation, Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government in Andhra Pradesh decided to open schools, in which children of classes 9th to 12th were allowed to attend school.

According to the data provided by the State School Education Department, out of a total of 1.89 lakh government teachers, 70,790 were tested for COVID-19. Among them, 1.17% i.e., 829 teachers were found positive.

While East Godavari had the highest number of positive cases (172), followed by 141 teachers in Srikakulam district.

Similarly, out of 95,763 students who tested for the virus, 0.60% i.e., 575 tested positive for COVID-19.

State School Education Commissioner V Chinna Veerbhadrudu said, "Most of the tests were conducted before the schools opened and the results have come after the schools reopened."

The schools were reopened in Andhra Pradesh on Monday for 9th and 10th-grade students and after that, there were some rumours on social media that as soon as the schools reopened, the infection among teachers and students is spreading very fast.

However, the Commissioner of School Education said that this is not the case. ”There are some messages doing the rounds on WhatsApp, suggesting that coronavirus infections have increased after schools reopened; it’s not true,” he said.

He said that schools are running in a safe environment with the utmost care, as schooling and health departments are alert in the districts. Also, there is encouraging and positive response among the students and teachers to continue the teaching activity in schools.
