As COVID-19 cases cross 26,000 in the country, a Singapore-based university has predicted that the coronavirus could 97% end in India by May 21.

The ‘good news’ is based on mathematical models used in Artificial Intelligence data analysis by the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD).

The university states that the "SIR (susceptible-infected-recovered) model is regressed with data from different countries to estimate the pandemic life cycle curves and predict when the pandemic might end in respective countries and the world, with codes from Milan Batista and data from Our World in Data".

The analysis has also predicted that in the US COVID-19 will end 97% around May 11, for Italy around May 7 and May 9 in the UK.

Worldwide, COVID-19 will end 97% on May 29 and 100% on December 8, the model predicts.

Meanwhile, coronavirus cases in India stood at 26,496 with 824 fatalities, according to government figures released on Sunday morning.
