At 34, Finland's Sanna Marin To Become World's You
Thirty-four-year-old Sanna Marin is going to become the new Prime Minister of Finland. With this, she will also become the world’s youngest Prime Minister. Marin, leader of the Social Democratic Party, is replacing former PM Antti Rinne. She will be sworn in on Tuesday.

A Left-Centre coalition of four other parties has been forged for government formation under Marin’s leadership. This will also be headed by women, and hence, the government in Finland will be led by women.

Before Marin, Ukraine’s Oleksiy Honcharuk, 35, was the youngest premier in the world. On second spot is North Korean President Kim Jong-un, aged 36. In third place is El Salvador President Nayib Bukele, who is 38. On fourth spot is New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern, aged 39.

After being chosen for the post of PM, Marin said that a lot of work will have to be done to regain people’s trust. She said further that she never thought about her age or gender and that she thinks about the reasons why she came into politics and about things for which she has gained the trust of voters.

Before being chosen as PM, Marin was Chairperson of the City Council from 2013-2017. She first became a Member of Parliament in 2015. In June 2019, she was inducted into the government and given charge of the Ministry of Transport and Communications.
