Beijing, the capital of China, has announced the locking down of 10 new residential areas after a fresh cluster of 59 new cases of the novel Coronavirus was detected.

At least, ten new residential areas neighbouring the biggest wholesale food market, Xinfadi, have been placed under lockdown, which is the new virus cluster in Beijing.

On Sunday, out of 41,510 total tests conducted in the area, 36 people tested positive who used to buy daily food items from the market where fresh fruits, vegetables and meat, etc. are sold.

Besides, 19 China’s cases are of overseas nationals who have recently returned home.

So far, eight districts of Beijing have been hit by Coronavirus and 499 cases of infection have been reported. Of these, 411 people have been discharged from hospital after treatment while 79 patients are being treated. Apart from these, seven asymptomatic patients are being monitored.

There was not a single case of local transmission in Beijing for 56 days prior to June 11, but a sudden virus spread has been reported from the Xinfadi wholesale market. Mass testing is being done in Beijing to prevent the spread.
