Democrats Claim Crucial Win In US State Elections

The US Democrats clinched crucial victory in the state elections, in what is being considered a big blow to President Donald Trump ahead of next year’s presidential election.

After a neck to neck fight, Democrat Andy Beshear emerged victorious in Kentucky’s governor vote, a conservative-leaning state.

Also, for the first time in over 20 years, Democrats managed to seize full control of the legislature in Virginia.

Following a closely-fought race, Republicans held onto power in the Mississippi governor vote.

Political pundits view the results as an indicator of the political mood ahead of next year’s presidential election.

Democratic presidential hopefuls, Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren had campaigned for the local candidates ahead of the vote.
