Harvey Weinstein Tests Positive For COVID-19 While In Prison
Hollywood mogul and convicted sex offender Harvey Weinstein has tested positive for the novel Coronavirus while in prison.
Weinstein, 68, is put in isolation at Wende Correctional Facility in Western New York. It is believed Weinstein contracted the virus when he entered the state prison system last Wednesday from Rikers Island, a New York City jail. He is one of the two inmates who tested positive for COVID-19 at the facility on Sunday, media reports said.
He is serving a 23-year sentence for raping a woman and sexually assaulting another woman in a Manhattan trial that became a watershed moment for the #MeToo movement. About 2,000 people were reportedly summoned during the jury selection process and prosecutors accused Weinstein's team of "systematically eliminating" young white women. As of Sunday, the virus has killed 417 people in the US out of more than 33,000 cases, according to a tracker managed by Johns Hopkins University
