Lion Air has announced it will suspend all operations of domestic and international flights from Friday, citing inability of passengers to comply with COVID-19 regulations.

In a statement the Jakarta-based airline said that “the group's decision was based on considerations from an evaluation of previous flight operations, that many prospective passengers were unable to carry out air travel because they did not complete the required documents and conditions during the Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic alert period”.

The airline said passengers who have already purchased tickets will get a full refund. Lion Air resumed operations on June1 after another halted resumption on May 10. The airline provides vital feeder services to Singapore, China and Malaysia.

Lion Air also stated that the health safety of its crew was another primary concern.

“Lion Air Group supports government related to the prevention efforts of COVID-19 spread, through active participation in implementing the health protocols that have been established…” the company said in a statement.

Indonesia had banned all air travel from April 24 in view of the coronavirus pandemic
