Indian-Origin Rishi Sunak Appointed As UK Finance
British MP and son-in-law of Infosys co-founder NR Narayana Murthy, Rishi Sunak has been appointed as the country’s finance minister in PM Boris Johnson’s post-Brexit Cabinet on Thursday.

Indian-origin Sunak is a British Conservative Party MP from Richmond (Yorkshire) since 2015 and had previously served as Chief Secretary to the Treasury, the second-in-command to the finance minister. His work included overseeing public spending.

The 39-year-old Sunak becomes one of UK’s youngest ever chancellors after being swiftly elevated to the most powerful job in the British Government.

His appointment follows the bombshell resignation of Sajid David who quit the government in a row with Mr Johnson over the role of special advisers.

Before entering politics in 2014, Sunak was an analyst with Goldman Sachs. His grandparents, originally from Punjab, emigrated to the UK from East Africa. He was earlier Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Local Government in the Theresa May government.
