Pakistan Court Overturns Convictions In Daniel Pea
A Pakistan High Court has commuted the death sentence of the man convicted of killing US journalist Daniel Pearl to seven years for kidnapping. Three co-accused sentenced to life have also been acquitted by the Sindh High Court and released.

At least four people were convicted in connection with the 2002 kidnapping and murder of the Wall Street Journal's South Asia bureau chief, including British national Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, who has been imprisoned since 2002.

The Sindh chief prosecutor says he will lodge an appeal in the Sheikh case.

The high profile abduction drew international attention, at a time when Pakistan was under criticism for letting terror networks operate on its soil.

Pearl, 38, was in Karachi working on a story on religious extremists in Pakistan when he disappeared in January 2002, but it is said that Sheikh was not involved in his killing, which was filmed and the video was posted online.

The Pearl Project alleged the killer was Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who is being held in Guantanamo Bay, the key organiser of the 9/11 attacks.
