US Begins Formal Withdrawal From Paris Climate Agreement

The United States has formally notified the United Nations of its intention to withdraw from the Paris Climate Agreement.
US is the only country that will not participate in the climate pact, as global temperature is set to rise three-degree celsius. Exiting the global climate change accord will be a one-year process, commencing the day after the 2020 US elections.
The US secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, announced the development on Monday afternoon, saying the agreement would be an “unfair economic burden imposed on American workers, businesses and taxpayers” and that the US has already reduced its heat-trapping emissions.

The pact brought together 188 nations to combat climate change. Under the Paris agreement, the US and 187 other countries were supposed to keep rising temperatures below two-degree celsius and attempting to squeeze even more, to 1.5-degree celsius.Today we begin the formal process of withdrawing from the Paris Agreement. The U.S. is proud of our record as a world leader in reducing all emissions, fostering resilience, growing our economy, and ensuring energy for our citizens. Ours is a realistic and pragmatic model.
