US House Sends Trump Impeachment Articles To Senat
Impeachment proceedings against U.S. President Donald Trump on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress will now be held in the United States (U.S.) Senate.

A resolution to send the impeachment action against Trump from the lower house - the House of Representatives - of the U.S. Congress to the upper house - the Senate - was passed on Wednesday, by 228 votes in its favour and 193 votes against it.

After the passage of the resolution, it is believed that impeachment proceedings against Trump could begin in the Senate from January 21.

However, the Republicans - Trump’s political party - control the Senate and so, there is very little likelihood of Trump being removed from the post of President. To remove him, two-thirds majority in the 100-member Senate is required.

Meanwhile, the White House has described the impeachment resolution as one of the most shameful political developments in the history of the U.S. Labelling the impeachment as just a rumour, Trump said that it will make no impact.

Trump is the third U.S. President against whom impeachment action has been approved. Till now, no U.S. President has been removed from his position after impeachment.
