Twitter took down an account that tweeted a call to violence and portrayed itself as connected to the left-wing organisation “Antifa”. The account was in fact operated by a known white supremacist group, Twitter said on Monday.
“This account violated our platform manipulation and spam policy, specifically the creation of fake accounts,” a Twitter spokesperson said in a statement. “We took action after the account sent a Tweet inciting violence and broke the Twitter Rules.”
“ALERT Tonight’s the night, Comrades Tonight we say “F**k The City” and we move into the residential areas… the white hoods…. and we take what’s ours #BlacklivesMaters #F**kAmerica.” @ANTIFA_US, the fake account tweeted on Sunday.

Though the account had just a few hundred followers, it is not the first time white supremacists have tried to cause tensions in the United States by pretending to left-wing activists online.
The not so surprising revelation comes at a time when President Donald Trump has constantly accused left-wing activists of arson and violence occurring at protests across America following the death of George Floyd.
Twitter said that the account was linked to Identity Evropa, a white supremacist brotherhood.
Trump threatened via a tweet that he would designate Antifa as a terrorist organization. Antifa stands for anti-fascists, in simple terms, people whose political beliefs lean toward the left and are popular for being Nazi haters and raising their voices for the oppressed.

This is not a stand-alone fake Antifa account linked to white supremacists suspended by Twitter, the spokesperson said. The United States of America will be designating ANTIFA as a Terrorist Organization.
