3 Customers Of Scam-Hit PMC Bank Dead; 2 of Cardiac Arrest, 1 Commits Suicide

A 39-year-old doctor, Nivedita Bijilani, with a savings account in scam-hit Punjab and Maharashtra Cooperative Bank allegedly committed suicide making it the third death of a depositor in the last two days. The second victim was a 61-year-old Fattomal Punjabi who died of a heart attack on Tuesday.

Customers of PMC Bank are dealing with many difficulties ever since the scam involving the bank came to light.

Fattomal Punjabi was a resident of Mumbai’s Mulund Colony. His family say he was suffering from depression as he had around Rs 9 lakh stuck in the PMC Bank.

While Nivedita Bijlani was a resident of Mumbai’s Andheri, who had deposits of over Rs 1 crore with the bank.

On Monday, Sanjay Gulati, another distressed customer of the bank, died from a cardiac arrest. A resident of Oshiwara’s Taraporewala Garden, 51-year-old Gulati’s Rs 90 lakh remain stuck in PMC Bank. His family members have held PMC Bank completely responsible for his death.

The bank's customers held a protest outside Mumbai's Esplanade Court on Wednesday and are demanding that the scam accused, which includes the former chairman of the bank, not be granted bail. The Court has extended the accused's police custody till October 16. 

Meanwhile, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has increased the cash withdrawal limit for PMC Bank customers from Rs 25,000 to Rs 40,000.
