5th Anniversary: The Evolution Of Apple’s Smartwatch

Internet connectivity, text messaging, voice control, and fitness tracking are some of the features found not only on today’s smartphone but accessible on your wrist as well. Smartwatches have turned into a valuable asset as they have everything you could want from a wearable device. Like everything else Apple creates, it came out with its version of smartwatches and April 24 is its 5th anniversary.

Apple Watch was presented by CEO Tim Cook in conjunction with iPhone 6, initially sold as a fashion accessory, focusing on the varying band and body styles. It also could make wireless payments; it was viewed as a mini Phone on your wrist, launched with 3,000 apps, varying from fitness tracking to messaging and trivia.

In comparison with apple watch 1, the next-gen came with sharp upgrades like GPS chip and a remarkable water-resistant frame. Now, the Watch lasted longer and tracked you better. Most notably, swimmers could take it inside in the pool with them and it would track the average pace, count laps, and detect stroke type.

When the Apple Watch first came out, it required a companion iPhone to operate. Apple took the next step in announcing Apple Watch Series 3. The third emphasis in the series allowed the freedom to take a call, stream music, interact with Siri, and more, without the need to have your smartphone nearby. These features were lauded by the users as they made their lives simpler.

Later in 2018, Cook and co. presented Apple Watch Series 4, a wearable focused on maintaining user’s health. Features like Fall Detection, Emergency SOS, and ECG generation were introduced.

The latest in the lot is Apple Watch Series 5. The standout feature, amongst many others, is its always-on display. The screen becomes brighter and dims but stays on when inactive with an added feature of international emergency calling.

The apple watch series has come a long way from its inception and has upped the ante by introducing distinctive features in every new model.
