The 23-year-old law student, who accused BJP leader and former Union minister Chinmayanand of rape, was arrested on Wednesday on charges of extortion. She has been sent on judicial custody for 14 days.

She was arrested from her house by the special investigation team (SIT) of the Uttar Pradesh police around 9.15 am. The woman was allegedly dragged outside her room during which she couldn’t even wear slippers. The student was then taken for medical examination and later produced before the CJM court. The court has sent her to 14-days of judicial custody.

On Tuesday, the SIT had attempted to detain her while she was approaching the Shahjahanpur court for her anticipatory bail. After a 10-minute high voltage drama on the busy road, SIT dropped the idea of taking her along and allowed her to appear before the court for anticipatory bail.

Last Friday, the SIT also arrested three persons — Sanjay Singh, Sachin Senger and Vikram — for allegedly sending a text message to Chinmayanand to extort Rs 5 crore from him.
