Farm Laws: After Punjab, Chhattisgarh & Rajasthan
Congress-ruled states have now opened a legal front against the Centre’s controversial farm legislation.

After the unanimous passage of three bills in the Punjab Assembly, the Congress governments of Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan are also ready to bring a new bill to counter the farm laws in the State Assemblies soon.

Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel sent a file seeking permission from the Governor Anusuiya Mikey to convene a special House session in the October-end, but the Governor returned the file objecting to it. Following which the State government sent the proposal to Raj Bhavan for the second time.

Amid the ongoing deadlock between the Raj Bhavan and the state government for convening a special session of the assembly, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said that no one can prevent a government with full majority from calling an assembly session. However, CM Baghel said that the Governor has asked for some information, it will be given to him by the government, hopefully after that permission will be given.

Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot is going to call a special Assembly session in the first week of November. In a cabinet meeting called by Ashok Gehlot, it was decided that on the lines of Punjab, now the Rajasthan government will make three new laws to counter Centre’s three laws.

Last month, Congress President Sonia Gandhi had asked Congress-ruled states to explore the possibility of bring in laws in their states under Article 254 (2) of the Constitution, which allowed state legislatures to pass a law to overrule a central legislation. The laws then needs the approval of the President.
