FIR Against 700 Unidentified AMU Students For Viol
Upset over police action inside the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), campus, AMU students have been demanding the resignation of Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Tariq Mansoor and Registrar Abdul Hamid since December 15, 2019.

The dispute between AMU students and the University administration took a turn for the worse on January 26 and now, Aligarh Police have registered FIRs against 700 students for violating Section 144.

Earlier, the police had arrested four students in a case of sloganeering against the AMU VC on January 26 and later, sent one of these students to jail under Section 151.

Inflamed at the arrest of their fellow student and demanding his release, AMU students demonstrated at Aligarh’s Chungi Gate the next day. After this demonstration, Aligarh Police registered cases - of violating Section 144 - against 600-700 unknown AMU students on January 27.

It has been mentioned in the case that protesting students have forcibly caused a jam on the road in front of Chungi, going towards Jamalpur, which has led to a violation of law.

Earlier too, a case had been registered against more than 1,000 AMU students for taking out a candle-light march.

A large segment of students are bent on demanding resignation from the AMU VC. These students allege that the VC granted the police permission to enter AMU campus, after which there were severe clashes between the police and students on campus.
