Fuel Prices Hiked For 17th Day Running, Congress Slams Centre

 

Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala slammed the Centre over rising fuel prices, accusing the Government of hitting the already vulnerable public by COVID-19.

In 17 days, petrol has become expensive by Rs 8.50 per litre and diesel by Rs 9.77 per litre.

After the revised rates, one litre of petrol cost Rs 79.76 per litre in Delhi, while diesel is at Rs 79.40 per litre.

While in Kolkata, petrol is priced at Rs 81.45 per litre and diesel at Rs 74.63 per litre.

One litre of petrol in Chennai cost Rs 83.04 and diesel at Rs 76.77. Similarly, petrol in Mumbai is at Rs 86.54 per litre and diesel at Rs 77.76 per litre.

Protests have erupted in many states including Delhi, Punjab and Rajasthan against this unbridled hike in fuel prices.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that the Central Government should explain to the public why prices are being hiked continuously for 16 days?

Transport Minister Pratap Singh Kachariyawas taking a dig at PM Narendra Modi said that the Modi Government has been increasing the fuel prices to benefit the Reliance Industries and keep their petrol pumps active. It is also not the case that there has been a jump in the prices of crude oil in the international market.

On Tuesday, crude oil was selling at $40.55 per barrel in the international market, which is quite low.
