Haryana Assembly Election: 481 Crorepati Candidate
As Haryana and Maharashtra go to the polls on October 21, all the parties have announced their candidates. One thing common in Indian politics is that political parties prefer to field those candidates who are rich.

Past elections trend shows that the candidates who face serious charges or even murder charge win elections and reach the Rajya Sabha or Assembly.

Of 1,169 candidates contesting the Haryana assembly elections, 117 or 10% have declared criminal cases against themselves, while 70 have declared serious criminal cases against them, according to the Haryana Election Watch and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR).

Interestingly, the report mentions candidates, who have declared criminal cases against themselves, on the basis of disclosures made by them in their affidavits.

The report analyses 1,138 candidates out of 1,169 in which 273 National Party candidates, 142 State parties candidates and 723 candidates of regional parties are in the fray.

Talking about the assets of the candidates, 481 candidates are millionaires with an average of assets per candidate at Rs 4.31 crore. The Congress Party has fielded 87 such candidates with average assets per candidate of Rs 13.72 crore, BJP has 89 such candidates with average assets per candidate of Rs 11.62 crore. The Jannayak Janta Party has fielded 87 ‘crorepati’ candidates.

The JJP candidate Rohtash Singh from Sohna is the richest assembly candidate in Haryana, with a net worth of Rs 325 crore. BJP's candidate from Hisar Captain Abhimanyu has assets worth over Rs 170 crore, while Congress candidate Sukhbir Kataria from Gurgaon has total assets worth Rs 106 crore.
