Kerala Under Community Spread Threat, Tightens Curbs For A Week

The threat of community transmission has arisen in the state of Kerala, which had earlier managed to flatten the curve against the coronavirus. According to the state government, more cases of infection among people who have no travel history are rising in the capital Thiruvananthapuram. A week of strict lockdown has been imposed in the capital after growing risk of infection.

According to the Chief Minister's Office, it is a triple lockdown. Restrictions have been tightened in the one-week lockdown. All major roads leading to Thiruvananthapuram have been closed and the functioning of the Secretariat is also at a standstill. However, shops for medicine and essential goods will remain open during the triple lockdown.

Before the start of the Vande Bharat Mission, the active cases in Kerala were only 16 but now the active cases have increased to 2,230. 

On July 5, 225 infection cases were reported across the state. The biggest concern of the state government is that the source of some coronavirus cases is not known. Such isolated cases are coming up every day and the Kerala government fears that community transmission is likely to occur.

CM Pinarayi Vijayan has said that so far one lakh people have returned to Kerala from abroad. In such an environment, if the lockdown is relaxed then the risk of transmission will increase. Vijayan said that this is a war against Coronavirus and everyone has to be a part of this war.

Meanwhile, the state government has decided to extend safety guidelines for a year. It has been made necessary to apply masks in the state for the next year and if not doing so, you will have to pay a fine of Rs 10,000. Similarly, the restrictions that 50 people can attend a wedding and 20 can attend a funeral will continue for the next year.
