Koregaon Bhima Case: SC Grants Gautam Navlakha Protection From Arrest Till Oct 15
The Supreme Court on Friday has extended interim protection from arrest to Gautam Navlakha till October 15. The court has asked Maharashtra to produce the evidence it has against Navlakha on the next date of hearing.
The Pune police had filed an FIR against Navlakha and others in the Bhima Koregaon case in January 2018 after the Elgar Parishad held on 31 December 2017 that had allegedly triggered violence at Koregaon Bhima in Pune district the next day. Besides Navlakha, four others — Varavara Rao, Arun Ferreira, Vernon Gonsalves and Sudha Bharadwaj, were booked under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and the Indian Penal Code.
While agreeing to hear Navlakha's plea challenging the Bombay high court order refusing to quash the FIR lodged against him, a bench of justices Arun Mishra and Deepak Gupta said that it would hear the arguments on October 15.Supreme Court extends the interim protection from arrest to Gautam Navlakha till October 15 in Bhima Koregaon case.
