LPG Cylinder Price Hiked Sharply Across Metros, Op
With an increase in the price of cooking gas cylinders, which had been stable since the beginning of this year, the rising inflation has now made inroads into people’s kitchens.

Oil companies have increased the price of non-subsidised LPG cylinders in India’s metro cities from Wednesday. The hike will be applicable in all metro cities - Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Chennai - from Wednesday midnight.

Evidently, the government is once again in the line of the Opposition’s fire because of this decision, which is expected to severely impact household budgets.

After this hike, one non-subsidised gas cylinder in Delhi will now cost Rs 858.50, an increase of Rs 144.50. In Kolkata too, the cost is now Rs 858.50, after a hike of Rs 149. While in Mumbai, this cost is Rs 829.50 after a hike of Rs 145 and in Chennai, this figure is Rs 881, after a hike of Rs 147.

According to the latest statistics of the Indian Oil Corporation, the cost of cooking gas has increased to become Rs 52.52 per litre in Delhi, Rs 50.35 per litre in Mumbai, Rs 50.35 per litre in Kolkata and Rs 49.70 per litre in Chennai.

Although fuel retailers make corrections in the price of LPG cylinders each month, there had been no increase in it since January 1, 2020. The government grants subsidy on 12 cylinders to every household each year.

Meanwhile, in view of the rising inflation, Congress leader Digvijay Singh criticised the Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharam for the financial year 2020-21 and said that she should not toy with the rights of states.
