Overseas Indians Protest Against CAA, NRC
The spark of protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act has spread to overseas with Indians settled in US, Germany and Australia taking to the streets and accusing the present government of tampering with the Constitution as well as dividing citizens.

On Sunday, over 500 NRIs gathered around the statue of Mahatma Gandhi installed in the front of the Indian Embassy and shouted slogans against PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah and demanded the withdrawal of the controversial CAA, which grants citizenship on the religious lines. They also said that the Modi government should rescind its intention of carrying out a nationwide NRC.

Overseas Indians are concerned whether India's secular constitution is being tampered with under the guise of Citizenship Law.

The World Tamil Organization also participated in the protest and termed the amended Citizenship law against the Tamil refugees.

Similarly, in Germany’s capital Berlin, hundreds of overseas Indians converged on the streets holding tricolour in hands and displaying banners and posters.

The protesters said that they do not accept any tampering with India's secular structure and oppose the law giving citizenship on the basis of religion. The protesters accused the current government of dividing the citizens of the country and appealed that the government should work on important issues like employment, education and healthcare.

In Australia, the Indian diaspora united to protest against what they say “the tampering of Constitution made by Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar” and demanded that India's secular structure be maintained.
