Thousands Feared Dead In Armenia-Azerbaijan Conflict; Pakistan Accused Of Involvement
Armenia and Azerbaijan have accused each other of breaching a ceasefire in the disputed region of Nagorno-Karabakh after they agreed to implement the ceasefire from 12 o'clock on Saturday night.
Where Armenia accused Azerbaijan of firing artillery shells and rockets just four minutes after the reconciliation, Azerbaijan stated that Armenia had opened fire two minutes later.
Last month, fighting started between the two countries over the disputed territory, which is internationally recognised as part of Azerbaijan but controlled by ethnic Armenians. Now according to a fresh agreement, both countries have agreed not to attack each other's civic institutions but more details have not been shared about it. At present, both the countries are accusing each other of escalation. First, the Armenia Ministry of Defense accused Azerbaijan of artillery fire. Then Armenia Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan said: "This is the policy of Azerbaijan, exchange blame to get the license to continue the aggression.” On the other hand, Azerbaijan foreign policy chief Hikmat Hajiyef said that Armenia is responsible for the renewed conflict. He said that Armenia is taking advantage of the existing ceasefire to occupy new areas of Azerbaijan. So far, a total of 673 Armenians have been confirmed dead, on the other hand, Azerbaijan has not released any list of the soldiers killed in the fighting. It is feared that the death toll may be in the thousands. At the same time, Pakistan's name is also coming out in the bloody conflict of these two countries. On 15 October, Armenia's Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan alleged involvement of Pakistan special forces alongside the Turkish Army in the ongoing conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh against Armenia. However, Pakistan has denied this but clearly stated that it will continue to give diplomatic and political support to Azerbaijan. The disputed area Nagorno-Karabakh is a mountainous area of 4,400 square kilometres i.e. 1,700 square miles. Nagorno Karabakh traditionally consists of Armenian Christians and Ottoman Muslims. Internationally, this area is recognised as part of Azerbaijan, but the majority of the population here is Armenian.
