After remaining inoperational since March 22 in wake of the coronavirus outbreak, Metro rail services will be allowed to operate with effect from 7th September 2020 in a graded manner, according to the latest guidelines issued by the Centre on  Saturday evening. Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will be issued by the  Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MOHUA).

Social, academic, sports, entertainment, cultural, religious, political functions, and other congregations will be permitted with a ceiling of 100 persons, with effect from 21st September 2020. Open-air theatres will also be permitted to open with effect from 21st September 2020.


Schools, colleges, educational and coaching institutions will continue to remain closed for students and regular class activity up to 30th September 2020. 

However, from 21 September in areas outside the containment zones, States/ UTs may permit up to 50% of teaching and non-teaching staff to be called to the schools. 

Students of class 9-12 may be permitted to visit their schools, in areas outside the Containment Zones only, on a voluntary basis.

Cinema halls, swimming pools, entertainment parks, theatres (excluding open-air theatre) and similar places, international air travel of passengers are to remain restricted, as per the guidelines.
