The recording of the testimony of Unnao rape survivor will start from today following the Delhi High Court’s order to set up a special court at the Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre, AIIMS.

The statement would not be recorded in the Tis Hazari court hearing the case, but in a makeshift special court in the hospital premises, the order said.

The court took the major decision after the probe agency requested a temporary court due to her medical condition. The Unnao rape survivor is undergoing treatment at AIIMS after she was critically injured in a road accident near Rae Bareli.

The court has issued instructions to the AIIMS administration, saying there shall be no audio or video recording of the deposition. It has also asked the AIIMS Medical Superintendent (MS) to ensure that the CCTV cameras installed inside the seminar hall are switched off during the proceedings. Authorities to ensure that the woman does not come face-to-face with the accused persons Kuldeep Sengar or Shashi Singh.

“The Management of the Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre, AIIMS, New Delhi is hereby instructed to place a stand with curtains so as to facilitate the accused persons to be seated in the Court, hear and observe the proceedings behind the curtains, and it would ensure that the victim / survivor shall not come face to face in contact with the accused persons,” said the order issued by District Judge Dharmesh Sharma.

In July, the Unnao rape survivor’s car was hit by a speeding truck in Rae Bareli district while she was on her way to Rae Bareli jail to meet a relative. The survivor’s two aunts were killed in the mishap while she and her lawyer were critically injured. She has blamed the car crash on Kuldeep Sengar, who was jailed last year after public outrage.

Sengar was also expelled from the Bharatiya Janata Party after the Supreme Court took up a petition demanding a CBI probe into the road accident. The expelled BJP MLA is presently lodged at Tihar Jail in the national capital.

All investigations are going on under the supervision of the Supreme Court. The law is constantly tightening the screws on the accused Kuldeep Singh Sengar.
